The Federal Government has said it will work in collaboration with Plateau State government to tackle illegal mining in the state.

Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, disclosed that the FG is worried over activities of illegal miners in the country, especially in Plateau, which is blessed with several solid minerals.

The Minister appealed to the state government to organize farmers into co-operatives as a way of supporting them.

Fayemi stated during a courtesy call to his office in Abuja last Friday by Plateau State Governor, Simeon Lalaong, that all resources, including finance, would be made available to tackle operations and the unsafe mining practices in the country.

In his remarks, Mr Lalaong assured the Minister of his administration’s commitment to addressing the issue.

He said the mining industry cannot be overlooked, adding that it could be another major source of foreign earning for Nigeria like oil if properly tapped into.
