At least one person has been confirmed dead in a mudslide that occurred in Lagos on Tuesday, September 7, 2016.

The unfortunate incident precisely happened at the illegal shanties in Kuata area, near Amara Olu Street, Mechanic Village, Agidingbi in Ikeja.

The lone dead victim, identified as Mrs Faisa Mohammed, 24, got married two weeks ago in Adamawa State.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) disclosed that three persons, a male and two females, including Faisa, were trapped in the slide.

According to the General Manager of LASEMA, Mr Michael Akindele, his agency received a distress call through the emergency toll free line 112/767 at about 10:54am and reacted swiftly.

Mr Akindele explained that the area was a wetland and a buffer zone which was not habitable.

“The Lagos State Government has been sensitising people staying in flood-prone and wetlands to vacate such areas to avert loss of lives, especially during this rainy season,” he said.

The corpse had been recovered.
