Second phase of the Federal Government’s Graduates/Youths Empowerment Scheme has been flagged off in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The programme is part of the present administration’s determination to diversify the economy to more productive activities like agriculture and others.

Minister of Water Resources, Mr Sulieman Adamu, who flagged off the scheme, explained that the programme was an off-shoot of the agreement signed in June 2016 between the FG and Songhai Integrated Farms Ltd to reposition and strengthen the River Basin Development Authorities (RBDAs) to become major economic nerve-centres in line with the economic diversification policy of the present administration’s change agenda.

The Minister, represented at the occasion by the Director River Basins Development and Inspectorate, Dr Musa Ibrahim, further said that the scheme at Oyan Dam, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, headquarters of Ogun- Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA), was inaugurated to support the Federal Government’s Agricultural agenda.

“The main objective of this scheme is massive job creation for young graduates with all year round agricultural production and other value chain activities,” he explained.

The Minister assured Nigerians that the initiative was laudable as it supports the vision and objectives of President Buhari’s drive for food security and youth empowerment.
