The African Union (AU) Commission has applauded President Alpha Condé of the Republic of Guinea for leading regional efforts to bring to an end the current impasse among the Guinea Bissau stakeholders.

Chairperson of the AU, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, said meaningful progress can never be achieved in the atmosphere of war.

She described the start of the Guinea Bissau dialogue in Conakry, under the ECOWAS mediator, Mr Condé, as a welcome development.

Dr Zuma reiterates the AU’s conviction that only a genuine and inclusive dialogue, based on the respect of the country’s Constitution, will enable the Guinea Bissau stakeholders find a consensual solution to the impasse, and create conducive conditions for peace, stability and development in the country.
