One Mr Olawunmi Oladele has been arraigned by police in Lagos for allegedly beating two female cops.
Mr Oladele was brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday on charges bordering on breach of peace and assault.
It was alleged that the suspect, 41, who lives at Fagba area of Lagos, unlawfully assaulted two policewomen alongside a woman, who is now at large.
Mr Oladele was accused of assaulting Inspector Patricia Okhide and Sergeant Funmilayo Adeamo, on October 12, 2016, at Iju in Agege, Lagos.
He was said to have pummelled the officers while they were performing their lawful duties.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector George Nwosu, the offences contravened Sections 166 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Mr Nwosu narrated to the court that, “The complainants were controlling traffic when they arrested (one Mrs Kemi) Saka for blocking the road with her car and prevented other road users to have right of way.
“They ordered Saka to follow them to the station but the accused who was only a passerby, stopped and interrupted, telling Saka not to obey their instructions.
“In the process, Saka escaped with her car and the accused was arrested but he resisted arrest and was beating and fighting the police women in order to avoid arrest.”
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
But if found guilty, the suspect could be jailed for four years.
The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Adesanya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till December 7 for mention.
