Beginning from Friday, November 11, 2016, Fridays in Benue State would now be observed as work-free, the state government has declared.

This move, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and ICT, Mr Tahav Agerzua, explained in a statement, is aimed at optimising harvest in the state.

He said workers in the education sector are exempted from the ‘holiday’, noting that the school calendar should be allowed to run normally.

Mr Agerzua further said the development was approved by the state executive meeting which was presided over by Governor Samuel Ortom.

He, however, noted that this would come to end by January 2017.

The Governor’s aided noted that workers in the state have been urged to use the last working day of the week for farming in the face of dwindling economy which made it difficult for the administration to pay salaries.

Benue State is known as the ‘food basket of the nation’ because its land is fertile for farming.
