The promotion of 8,617 public primary school teachers in Lagos State has been approved by the state Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.

According to the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Ganiyu Oluremi Sopeyin, 10,851 public primary school teachers of different grade levels sat for the promotion examination and the newly promoted teachers were found worthy of their elevation.

Mr Sopeyin noted that the exercise could not have been possible without the commitment of the Mr Ambode in ensuring the welfare of public school teachers.

He assured that the government would continue to provide the basic needs in order to ensure provision of qualitative and quantitative education in a conducive environment in the state.

Mr Sopeyin urged the promoted teachers not to relent in their efforts but rather consider their success as a motivating factor which should spur them to do more, adding that to ‘whom much is given much is expected’.

He observed that since the present administration came on board, a lot of laudable developments have taken place in the area of education and other sectors in the State which have gained local and international recognition and awards.

He recalled that Mr Ambode was recently conferred with the Award of the Best Performing Governor in Primary Education in Nigeria for the Year 2016 by the Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria in Kano.
