I’ve Not Earned Salary in 6 Years ‘Cos Osun Is Broke—Aregbesola

Osun State Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, has disclosed that he has not received salary for the past since years he assumed office.

Mr Aregbesola made this disclosure on Sunday at the launch of the newly established Oodua FM in Ile-Ife, owned by Mr Rotimi Malone.

The Governor explained that he has not received salary because the state was broke, adding that this has been the main reason he was yet to appoint Commissioners since he was sworn-in for a second term in office in 2014.

He expressed worry at rumours that he has been lavishing the state’s funds.

“When people complain about our financial state, I begin to wonder if they think I am spending people’s money. Some of you do not know that I have not received any salary since I became Governor of Osun State, why will I take that of others,” Mr Aregbesola said.

He urged owner of the radio station not to use it for politics, but for the development of the state.

Premium Times reports that a state Governor earns a monthly salary of N2.2 million, going by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

Apart from that, Governors are also entitled to constituency allowance of N4.4 million, hardship allowance N1.1 million, leave allowance N222,370 and newspaper allowance N333,555.

  1. Do you actually know what a pen-pusher is? For someone with an “amazing” passion for journalism, the least you could do is google the meaning of a word before using it to describe yourself. Also, it is “role models are” NOT “role model are” and “with a view to becoming” is not English…
