Lagos Greening Initiative Gets Solar Power Boost

The greening initiative of the Lagos State government recently received a boost from the Philips Lightings of Netherlands when the company donated a 1000 kilowatts solar power system to the state’s Parks and Garden Agency (LASPARK) at the MKO Gardens, Lagos.

Receiving the Solar Power System, the General Manager of the Agency, Mrs Abimbola Jijoho-Ogun applauded the generosity of the organisation, saying the gesture will go a long way at improving the aesthetics of the environment as well as enhancing the security of lives and property of the citizenry.

The General Manager, represented by Mr Adetunji Oluseyi, Assistant Director, Parks and Gardens Partnerships (PGP), stated that the donation of the solar system will go a long way to aid the ambience of MKO Gardens and environs.

While calling on other corporate organisations to emulate such gesture from Philips Lightings, Jijoho-Ogun maintained that government alone cannot maintain the over 349 parks and gardens spread across the State.

In his remarks, the company consultant, Mr Olanrewaju Olaleye, stated that the donation was aimed at promoting green living, guard against global warming and to make use of sustainable energy that can serve as alternative energy to power light at any recreational park of the Agency.

He stressed the importance of solar systems as alternative energy sources because they are cost effective in the maintenance of Parks and Gardens in the State, hence it should be embraced.

Recall that LASPARK had earlier this year graduated 514 Assistant Horticulturists who have been deployed to assist government contracted specialists in the maintenance of parks and gardens across the state.
