On Friday, January 27, 2017, some angry Nigerians stormed the headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Abuja to protest against its policies on foreign exchange.
The demonstrators, led by a top member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Deji Adeyanju, lamented at the high exchange rate of the Naira to the Dollar.
The protesters, mainly women, carried placards conveying various messages including “Is $1 to N500 Ok?” among others.
The group is calling on the apex bank to reverse some of its policies on forex so as to give more life to the local currency.
At the moment, the Naira is traded for over N490 to a Dollar.
On Friday, the CBN maintained that criticisms from Nigerians and stakeholders won’t make it change some of these policies.
