A physically challenged man was on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, brutalised by two soldiers in Anambra State.

It was gathered that the unfortunate incident precisely happened on the New Market Road in Onitsha, Anambra.

The crippled man was accused by the military men of dressing in a camouflage, which is against the law.

It was learnt that while the soldiers were passing along the road, they sighted the man wearing a camouflage on his wheelchair and then descended on him.

One of the soldiers dragged the crippled man away from his wheelchair, while the other flung it away.

The man was thereafter dragged on the road and his colleague joined to flog him.

Onlookers could not save the situation for fear of being brutalised by the angry soldiers.

However, the Nigerian Army has reacted to the issue, maintaining the incident is not the true reflection of what the Army is.

In the statement issued by its spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Usman, the Army stated that, “In line with our zero tolerance for acts of indiscipline and unprofessional conducts especially in relation to violation of human rights, we wish to further state that the soldiers involved have since been identified and apprehended.”

The statement further said the soldiers have also been “charged for assault by their Commanding Officer.”

“Similarly, troops have been warned to desist from such acts that infringe on human rights and cast serious aspersions on the good image of the Nigerian Army.

“The public should please regard this ugly incident as an isolated case which is not true reflection of the Nigerian Army,” the statement said.
