Buhari Sends Two Ministerial Nominees to Senate

By Dipo Olowookere

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent names of two new ministerial nominees to the Senate for confirmation as required by the constitution.

The two nominees are from Kogi and Gombe States.

They are to replace late James Ocholi, a former Minister of State for Labour, who died in an auto crash over a year ago; and Ms Amina Mohammed, former Minister for Environment, who is now the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.

It is however not clear if the Senate will screen the nominees.

On Tuesday, the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly stood down for two weeks consideration of the request of President Buhari for the appointment of 27 Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

The Senate said it was wrong for the President to still allow Mr Ibrahim Magu act as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being rejected two times after being nominated by Mr Buhari.
