Senate Moves to Suspend Ndume for One Year

Former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, may be suspended from the red chamber for one year.

This followed the Point of Order he raised on the floor last week, calling the attention of his colleagues to an allegation against the Senate President, Mr Bukola Saraki, over the purchase of a Range Rover Jeep, which was said to have cost the Senate N298 million, with the Customs duties unpaid.

He had also alerted his colleagues to the alleged certificate forgery against Senator Dino Melaye.

These allegations went viral and almost ridiculed the Senate.

But the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges was called to look into the matters and it eventually cleared both Mr Saraki and Mr Melaye on Monday.

During Monday’s hearing, Senator Ndume told the committee that he only raised the Point of Order based on newspaper publications, saying he never intended to bring disrepute to the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly.

But during plenary session on Wednesday (today), the committee, headed by Senator Sam Anyanwu, submitted its report and recommended one year suspension of Mr Ndume.

As at the time of filing this report, the report is being debated.
