The lone English club remaining in this season’s UEFA Champions’ League, Leicester City, was knocked out of the competition on Tuesday night by Athletico Madrid.

The Foxes entered into the second leg of the quarter-final with a goal deficit it suffered last Wednesday in Spain and needed to prevent Athletico from scoring any goal at the King Power Stadium to stand the chance of progressing to the next round.

However, the English champions could not match the experience of their Spanish guests, who went ahead in the first half from Saul Niguez’s header.

In the second half, Leicester pulled one back from their mercurial striker, Jamie Vardy, in the 66th minute, but that goal was not enough to see them through to the semi-final.

The team from England was knocked out of the competition after finishing 1-2 on aggregate.
