BREAKING: Again, Court Grants Bail to IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu

By Modupe Gbadeyanka

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr Nnamdi Kanu.

Mr Kanu had been held in detention by the Nigerian government over his call for the secession of Biafra from Nigeria.

At the ruling on Tuesday, Justice Binta Nyako granted Mr Kanu bail on health ground.

Part of the bail conditions includes an order stopping the IPOB leader from granting any press interview pending the outcome of his trial.

Mr Kanu was further told not to be in the gathering of more than 10 persons.

He is also told to provide three sureties one of who must be a serving Senator, a Jewish religious leader and highly respected person, who must own a land in Abuja. His bail bond is N100 million for each surety.

Meanwhile, Mr Kanu has been warned not to breach any of the bail conditions or risk the bail being revoked by the court.

It should be noted that this is not the first time a Nigerian court has granted bail to the IPOB leader, but the Federal Government has still kept him and insisting on a secret trial for him.

Last week, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Deji Adeyanju, was arrested by police in Abuja for organising a protest calling for an open trial of the IPOB leader. However, he was later released after a public outcry.
