If residents of Ogun State wish to enjoy meaningful development, then they must ensure prompt and regular payment of taxes.

This was the submission of the Ogun State Governor, Mr Ibikunle Amosun, at an event held penultimate Thursday in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Mr Amosun, while declaring open the 19th Annual Tax Conference of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), emphasised that without prompt payment of taxes, meaningful development may be difficult to achieve.

The Governor noted that it would be in the best interest of the people to pay their taxes regularly as a way of supporting the government in the provision of social amenities.

However, he assured that his administration would continue to use tax payers’ money in the most judicious and efficient manner.

Speaking on the theme of the conference tagged, ‘Taxation and Governance: The Social Contract Imperatives,’ Mr Amosun said, “The theme could not have been more apt especially at this time when the nation is seeking ways to boost its revenue base.”

Earlier in her address, President of the CITN, Dr Olateju Somorin, praised Mr Amosun for the various infrastructural projects he has completed as well as ongoing ones in the Gateway State. She noted that the Institute was proud to be associated with the good performance of the Governor.

Dr Somorin further commended Governor Amosun for raising the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) profile of Ogun State.
