FG Trains Bee Farmers on Honey Export to Europe

Bees’ farmers in the country have been trained by the Federal Government on how they can export honey made from bees to the European market and earn foreign exchange from it.

The training was organised by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Apitrade Africa Ltd.

The three-day capacity programme was tagged ‘European Union Third Country Listing, an eligibility criteria for the export of honey to the EU market.’

Participants were drawn from companies interested in the export of honey and their network of beekeepers at the training programme, which was held at the on June 29 at the Goshen City Guest House Conference Hall on Abuja-Keffi Road, Nasarawa State, as well as the Bargong Farms, also along the Abuja-Keffi Road on June 30 and July 1, 2017,

During the programme, the farmers were taught how they can produce quality honey that would be needed in Europe.

Speaking at the training, the Director of Veterinary & Pest Control Services Department in the Ministry said the government was “working with EU Food Vet Office to enlist eligible exporters into EU honey market.”

He said honey was a big commodity in the European market and urged the farmers to tap into it.
