UNILORIN VC: 20 Shortlisted for Position

No fewer than 20 vice chancellorship aspirants of the University of Ilorin, out of 30 that applied for the position, have been shortlisted for interview at the institution.

Tribune Online gathered that the shortlisted aspirants were now facing screening committee set up by the university authority and led by the chairman of the Governing Council of the university, Dr Jubril Oyekan.

It is recalled that the tenure of the current vice chancellor of the university, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, ends next month after completion of his five year single term in office.

It was also gathered that the selection of the affected 20 aspirants for interview was based on criteria set down by the screening committee to get most qualified person for the position.

The aspirants in the ongoing interview are Professors Hasan Saliu, Abdulkareem Age, Adebayo Lawal, Abayomi Omoteso, Abdulsalam Ahmed and Job Atte.

Sources added that the interview would be completed on Friday due to large numbers of the aspirants that would face the screening committee.

The screening committee was expected to select three aspirants that would be presented to President Muhammadu Buhari after the interview while one of them would be picked as the next vice chancellor of the university.

Contacted on the development, Deputy Director, Corporate and Information Affairs of the university, Mr Abdulganiyu Kunle Akogun who confirmed the ongoing interview of the 20 aspirants for the vice chancellorship position of the university said that the chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Jubril Oyekan is the leader of the screening committee of the exercise.

He however said that in view of the large numbers of the aspirants, the committee would not be able to complete its exercise until Friday, August 25, this year.
