A new Chairman has been appointed for the South African arm of leading consulting and audit firm, KPMG.
In September 2017, KPMG fired its South African leadership after it was discovered that the firm compromised standards in jobs done for companies owned by the Gupta family, accused of influencing government contracts because of closeness to the South African President, Mr Jacob Zuma.
The new Chairman appointed for KPMG South Africa is Mr Wiseman Nkuhlu, who is a veteran public servant and former Chairman of the Development Bank of Southern Africa.
Also, KPMG on Wednesday announced the appointment of Ms Ansie Ramalho as an independent director.
Both Ms Ramalho and Mr Nkuhlu would assume their roles on March 1, 2018.
Mr Nkuhlu is the country’s first black chartered accountant and has the unenviable task of restoring credibility to the embattled audit firm.
He is currently chancellor of the University of Pretoria and has over 30 years’ experience in both the public and private sectors.
The new Chairman has served as a board director and as part of the audit committee at a wide range of leading public listed companies and was also an economic advisor to former President, Mr Thabo Mbeki.
