The two recently cleared nominees for the position of the deputy governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mrs Aisha Ahmad and Mr Edward Adamu, have finally resumed office.

The duo were appointed last year by President Muhammadu Buhari and were sent to the National Assembly for confirmation.

However, this exercise was delayed as a result of a political faceoff between the executive and the legislature.

This resulted into the first Monetary Policy Meeting (MPC) meeting of 2018 being cancelled because a quorum of six could not be formed by the committee.

This month, a lawmaker urged his colleagues to consider the two deputy CBN governorship nominees and four other members nominated to fill the vacant positions in the MPC.

This week, the Senate confirmed Mrs Ahmad and Mr Adamu.

They also confirmed the appointment of three of the four MPC members; Adeola Adenikinju, Robert Asogwa and Aliyu Sanusi.

On Wednesday, the new deputy CBN Governors resumed office as well as the three MPC members.

The five officials were at the headquarters of the apex bank yesterday in Abuja to formally begin work.

An oath taking ceremony was conducted for them, which was administered by the acting director, Corporate Secretariat at the CBN, Alice Karau.

After this, the director, Monetary Policy Department, Moses Tule, read out the Charter of the MPC to the new members.

Governor of the central bank, Mr Godwin Emefiele, who witnessed the oath taking, charged them to be of high standard.

He said their appointment would enable the MPC meeting hold its first meeting this year on April 3 and 4.

After the ceremony, all the officials immediately went in for their maiden MPC retreat ahead of the main meeting next week.
