Joshua Beats Parker by Unanimous Decision, Ends Knockout Streak

British boxer, Anthony Joshua, on Saturday night defeated his New Zealand-born opponent, Joseph Parker, by unanimous point decision.

With the win, the British boxer, who has a Nigerian root, becomes the new WBO heavyweight champion.

During the match, the two boxers gave spectators at the at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium something to enjoy as they exchanged punches till the 12th round.

At the end of the bout, the judges gave their scorecards as 118-110, 118-110 and 119-109, leaving Joshua with his first professional fight without a knockout, though his unbeaten run stands.

Before now, Joshua had enjoyed 20 straight wins with 20 knockouts, including his 2017 epic battle at the Wembley Stadium in England with Wladimir Klitschko.

With Saturday’s defeat, Parker has suffered his first professional loss. He came into the match armed with 24 wins with 18 knockouts.

Before yesterday’s fight, Joshua was the holder of three belts; WBA super, IBF and IBO, while Parker had the WBO title, which he has now lost to Joshua.

Speaking after the fight, 28-year-old Joshua explained that his for the Parker fight was “stick behind the jab, it’s one of the most important weapons.”

“The old saying is the right hand will take you around the block, but the jab will take you around the world,” he added.

Commenting further, the British boxer said he will relish taking on Deontay Wilder for the lone heavyweight title belt presently not in his possession.

“I will want to fight Wilder whenever, wherever. Wilder, let’s go baby! Let’s go!” he said.

“Get him in the ring and I will knock him spark out,” Joshua boasted.

Saturday’s match was watched live at the Cardiff Stadium by about 80,000 people and viewed by millions of people across the globe.
