OAU to Probe Prof Richard Akindele's Sèx-for-Marks Mess

By Modupe Gbadeyanka

Yesterday, there was an audio recording released on social media alleging a professor in the department of Accounting of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, Osun State, Mr Richard Akindele, of demanding for sèx from one of his female students in return for an upgrade of her marks.

The matter generated mixed reactions on social media with some claiming such was common across tertiary institutions in the country.

In the recorded phone conversation purportedly between the lecturer and the victim, an undergraduate of the school, the professor was heard asking to sleep with the student five different times to upgrade her mark to 40 from 33, which the lady scored in the exam.

Disturbed by the reactions that followed the leaked audio, the management of the school has expressed its intention to get to the root of the matter.

Spokesman of OAU, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju, said, “The university is aware (of the issue) and we are setting up machinery to critically look at the issue to determine the veracity, otherwise there won’t be conclusion.”

He said the school will take appropriate action after it concludes its investigation.

Professor Akindele is said to be a very popular lecturer and cleric at OAU.
