Adeosun Bows to Pressure, Resigns as Nigeria’s Finance Minister

By Dipo Olowookere

Reports say the embattled Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has finally resigned from the exalted position.

According to Daily Trust, sources close to the Minister said she finally bowed to pressure following her case of an alleged falsification of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) certificate.

After graduating from London at 22, Mrs Adeosun was supposed to return to Nigeria for the mandatory one-year NYSC, but she did not.

The NYSC act makes it mandatory for graduates before the age of 30 to enrol for the exercise and those above the age are issued an exemption certificate.

However, the Minister was accused of having a forged exemption certificate even when she was not eligible for it.

There had been calls for her resignation, but the Presidency chose to ignore such, maintaining that it was waiting for outcome of an investigation into the matter by the NYSC management.

As at the time of filing this report, Business Post is still unable to independently confirm if Mrs Adeosun has truly resigned from the position.
