An employee of popular e-commerce platform in Nigeria, Mr Emmanuel Prosperity, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The suspect was taken to court on Monday by the Lagos Command of the Nigeria Police Force on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The 22-year-old Jumia staff was accused of stealing his employer’s two Gionee phones worth N67,610 on November 9 at about 10.30pm at No. 1, Surulere Street, Off Acme Road, Ogba, Lagos.

According to the police prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, the offences violate Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

When the charges were read to him, the accused person pleaded not guilty, while the Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Adegun said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State government and have their addresses verified by the court, while he adjourned the case until December 11 for trial.

Business Post reports that Mr Prosperity was seen in a CCTV footage with others still at large to have allegedly taken the phones at a store belonging to Jumia Services Limited.
