INEC Declares Buhari Winner of Nigeria's Presidential Election

President Muhammadu Buhari has been declared winner of the Saturday, February 23, 2019 presidential election.

The poll, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was won by the President, who was elected for another four years in office.

Declaring the winner in the early hours of Wednesday, February 27, 2019, INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, announced that Mr Buhari defeated his closest rival in the race, Mr Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to emerge winner.

He said Mr Buhari polled a total of 15,191,847 votes, while Mr Abubakar garnered a total of 11,262,978 votes.

Mr Yakubu declared that, “Muhammadu Buhari of the APC, having satisfied and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner and return elected.”
