Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has proceeded on annual vacation and has consequently transferred powers to his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu.
In a letter to the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday, Mr Obaseki said he will be on vacation from Sunday, March 24 to April 23, 2019.
In order not to create a vacuum, the Governor said his deputy will take charge of affairs of the state till he returns.
Clerk of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Audu Yahaya Omogbai, disclosed that the Speaker, Mr Kabiru Adjoto, has received a letter from the governor notifying the legislature of his annual vacation.
According to him, “the letter states that the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu will act as the governor during the period.
“The parliament hereby extends her commendation to the governor for setting a democratic and constitutional landmark in the state by temporarily transferring power to his deputy, while away and ensuring that the house is duly carried along, which is in full compliance with section 190 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.”
“Edo State House of Assembly assures the good people of Edo State of its unwavering cooperation with the Acting Governor as he carries out his constitutional responsibilities,” the statement said further.
