The dichotomy between holders of Bachelor’s Degree and Higher National Diploma (HND) that has caused issues in the civil service in Nigeria has now been abolished.
The separation created for holders of the degrees has been stopped by the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB), which is under the Ministry of Interior.
Secretary of the board, Mr Al-Hassan Yakmut, was quoted in a statement as saying that Chairman of CDFIPB and Minister of Interior, Mr Abdulrahman Dambazau, approved the abolition during the board’s meeting held between May 9 and May 10, in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Yakmut said after the board’s meeting, a technical committee was immediately set up to work out modalities for the implementation, adding “including the harmonization of ranks in accordance with the abolition.”
He said the board also approved the recruitment of 2,200 candidates into the Federal Fire and 7,475 candidates into the Nigeria Prisons Services.
“The meeting also approved the recruitment of 2,200 candidates into the Federal Fire Service, and 7,475 candidates into the Nigeria Prisons Service.
“Dambazau wishes the candidates a successful career in the services and pledges commitment of the board to ensuring adequate pre-deployment training,” he said.
