The government of Bayelsa State has announced Monday, July 1 to Wednesday, July 3, 2019 as prayer and fasting days in the state.

A statement issued by Special Adviser to Governor Seriake Dickson on Religious Matters, Pastor Samuel John-Peters, disclosed that the purpose of the fast is to seek direction and guidance from God in the choice of who will take over the mantle of leadership after his eight-year tenure as Governor later this year.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, November 16, 2019, for governorship election in Bayelsa and Kogi States.

For a successful exercise, the Bayelsa State Governor has asked residents of the oil-rich state to seek the face of God.

According to the statement issued by Pastor John-Peters, the Governor believes as the Psalmist said in Psalm 62: verse 11 “power belongs to God”, and only God can give power to men.”

It was said that the fasting and prayer will take place on Monday and Tuesday at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall, Government House, while the Wednesday session is scheduled for the Bayelsa State Ecumenical Centre in Igbogene.

“All well-meaning Bayelsans and especially all the gubernatorial aspirants are advised to join the state in these three days for divine intervention on who becomes the next Chief Executive of the state and for peace to reign during the forthcoming governorship election,” the statement said.
