Two Storey-Building Collapses in Gbagada Lagos

A two-storey building has partially collapsed in the Gbagada Area of Lagos State. The unfortunate incident occurred in the wee hours of Thursday, August 1, 2019.

The affected property, Business Post gathered, is located at number 9, Adio Street, in the New Garage area of Gbagada.

It was discovered that many were trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building and a swift evacuation exercise by sympathisers and first responders led to the rescue of two persons, with more victims expected to be saved.

According to reports reaching us, response has come from agents of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) who are currently onsite to help with emergency medical attention.

This would be the second building collapse in the space of one week in Lagos, as a similar occurrence happened at No.30, Ososa St., Bariga area of the state last Saturday as a landlord and his four children were trapped when their building partially collapsed.

Lagos has had a fair of collapsed properties. Recently, a three-storey building at Iju area of Lagos State went down in June and left many people trapped in the rubble.

The General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, had told journalists that the building, which was under construction, collapsed at K Farm, Fagba, Off Iju Road, Lagos.

Earlier in the year, a residential property housing a private nursery and primary school caved in on Lagos Island, claiming the lives of many, including some school children.

As at the time of filing this report, there were no fatal casualties have been reported in the Gbagada incident.
