Youths in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria have been advised to shun violence, thuggery and other nefarious activities in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa State.

This charge was given by the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Mr Simbi Wabote Kesiye, when he received the new executive of the Ijaw Youth Congress, Central Zone, at the agency’s headquarters in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The NCDMB chief challenged the IYC Zonal leadership to be non-partisan in the forthcoming elections and remain focused in leading young persons to demand good governance, progress and development.

He thanked them for the visit and noted the significant role of youths in societal development, hence, the need to channel their energy to productive uses.

In his response to the request made by the youth organisation, the Executive Secretary promised to support their planned sensitization workshop aimed at dissuading youths from indulging in violence during the forthcoming elections and engaging them in capacity building programs of the board.

Making his earlier remarks, Chairman of the IYC, Central Zone, Comrade Kennedy Olorogun, commended the Executive Secretary for his transformational leadership and the agency’s achievements since he took on the saddle.

He disclosed that NCDMB had done a lot for the Ijaw nation since its inception in Yenagoa, thus they were encouraged to visit and ask for other areas of support and collaboration to sustain the good relationship between the board and the IYC.
