EFCC Storms Ambode’s Residence in Epe

Reports have it that officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have raided the residence of former governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, in the Epe area of the metropolis.

It was anti-graft agency stormed the house in a commando style and allegedly began to search for some items.

According to the reports, spokesman of the EFCC, Mr Tony Orilade, who confirmed that the agency’s officials were at the residence of the former Governor on Tuesday, stressed that it was part of an ongoing investigation into a matter involving the former Governor.

Business Post recalled that About two weeks ago, it was reported that the sum of N9.9 billion was linked bank accounts operated by an official in the administration of Mr Ambode.

The EFCC had said it obtained a court order to freeze the bank accounts this money was kept until conclusion of its investigations.

However, the former Governor, who fell out with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, which led to denying him a second term in office, explained in a statement that, “Those accounts were opened in the course of normal operations by the Lagos State Government for its administrative purposes and not for the former Governor’s personal transactions as was being wrongly insinuated and have been operated to ensure smooth operations of government activities by previous and present administrations.”

“We strongly believe that after four demanding years as Chief Executive of Lagos State, Mr Ambode is entitled to some deserved rest with his family and loved ones without the unwarranted attacks on his well-earned reputation,” the statement said.
