Sterling Bank Appoints New Chief Legal Counsel as Old Retires

Mid-level financial institution in Nigeria, Sterling Bank Plc, has appointed Mrs Temitayo Adegoke as its new Company Secretary and Chief Legal Counsel.

This followed the retirement of Ms Justina Lewa from the position after 28 years of meritorious service to the bank. She was appointed to the post by the lender in July 2009.

Announcing the appointment of Mrs Adegoke on Wednesday through a notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Sterling Bank said, “The appointment has been approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).”

In the disclosure, Sterling Bank said Mrs Adegoke “brings to the Sterling team, the knowledge, skills and extensive experience that she has garnered over the years.”

Mrs Adegoke is a seasoned professional with over 15 years’ experience and prior to joining the Sterling Bank team, she was the General Counsel & Company Secretary of Rand Merchant Bank Nigeria Limited (RMBN).

Before working at RMBN, she had also worked at First Bank of Nigeria Limited and the commercial law firm of Aluko & Oyebode.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Lagos, a Master’s degree in Law from Kings College, London, UK and an MBA degree from University of Warwick, UK. She was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.

Mrs Adegoke is an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (HCIB), a member of the International Bar Association and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK (Nigeria Branch).
