Manchester City put eight unreplied goals past Watford at the Etihad on Saturday to record their highest win in the Premier League history after last weekend’s defeat at Norwich.

After just 18 minutes, the Blue Side of Manchester was five goals up, with David Silva opening scoring after only 52 seconds of kick off. It took another six minutes for Pep Guardiola’s side to add another goal against bottom of the table Watford, who are yet to win this season and it was Sergio Agüero who doubled the lead in the 7th minute from the penalty spot after Riyad Mahrez was brought down by Watford goalkeeper, Ben Foster. Agüero has now scored in all opening six league games, making him the first player to set a record in the EPL history.

Riyad Mahrez added a third in the 12th minute when his free kick deflected off Watford midfielder, Tom Cleverly into the net.

Bernarndo Silva headed in the fourth goal after De Bruyne’s corner was flicked on by Nicolas Otamendi in the 15th and Nicolas Otamendi recorded his name in the scoresheet for fifth goal in the 18th minute.

After the break, Bernardo Silva scored his second of the game when he slotted home a David Silva’s pass to make it 6-0, and he later completed his first hat-trick for Manchester City when he converted another De Bruyne cross in the 60th minute to make it 7-0.

De Bruyne who had been instrumental in the team’s previous goals added his name to the score sheet to complete the 8-0 beating with a thunderbolt goal.

The 8-0 win comes close but doesn’t beat Manchester United’s Premier League record 9-0 win over Ipswich Town in 1995 as other clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle and Southampton have come close to breaking the 24-year record.
