Market Bellwether Triggers N1.95bn Loss at NASD

The market capitalisation of the NASD Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities Exchange decreased by N1.95 billion on Monday, February 6, closing at N940.40 billion against the previous value of N942.35 billion.

Also, the NASD Unlisted Securities Index (NSI) went down by 1.48 points 0.21 per cent to wrap up the session at 715.67 points versus 717.15 points.

The loss posted by the market occurred as the share price of FrieslandCampina WAMCO, a market bellwether, shrank by 1.5 per cent or N1 loss during the session to end the day at N68.00 per unit, in contrast to the preceding session’s price of N69.00 per unit.

The trading data showed that there was a fall in the volume of trades, the value of transactions, and the number of deals in the opening trading session of the week.

According to data from the NASD OTC exchange, the volume of unlisted securities traded by market participants fell by 84.7 per cent as 53,772 units exchanged hands, in contrast to the 351,489 units of securities transacted last Friday.

Also, the value of shares exchanged by investors depreciated by 53.7 per cent to N2.4 million from N5.3 million recorded in the previous session.

Similarly, the total number of deals executed at the bourse yesterday went down by 10 per cent to nine deals from the 10 deals carried out in the preceding trading session.

Geo-Fluids Plc closed the trading session as the most traded stock by volume on a year-to-date basis with the sale of with 321.2 million units worth N317.2 million, followed by UBN Property Plc, which recorded a turnover of 35.8 million units valued at N25.8 million, and FrieslandCampina WAMCO Group Plc, which sold 2.5 million units valued at N161.3 million.

Also, Geo-Fluids Plc maintained its position as the most active stock by value on a year-to-date basis, with 321.2 million units sold for N317.2 million, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Group Plc trailed with 2.5 million units valued at N161.3 million, and VFD Group Plc exchanged 561,810 units for N137.0 million.
