BUA Group to Pick 24 Okpella Students Yearly for Scholarship

One of the top players in the cement industry in Nigeria, BUA Group, has inaugurated a scholarship board for one of its host communities, Okpella, Edo State.

This is part of the company’s continued social development and sustainability investments in areas it operates, a statement from the firm stated.

The scholarship scheme was inaugurated on Tuesday August 6, 2019 through the BUA Obu Cement Company, which operates in the community.

It was disclosed that the programme will administer a minimum of 24 tertiary scholarships from the company every year starting from September 2019.

The aim of the scheme, according to the statement, is to develop capacity and a highly skilled youth population in that area to the benefit of not only the community, but the country at large.

Also, in furtherance of BUA’s commitment to #SDG6 (Sustainable Development Goals on Water and Sanitation), six solar powered water projects were commissioned and handed over to six villages in Okpella.

These communities are Okhuonmunyio, Iddo, Amuyemi, Oghute, Imiegele, and Imiekuri. The projects were donated to them to provide clean potable water.

According to BAU Group, “CSR is how we colour the lives of people and communities around us.”

BUA Group, through the BUA Obu Cement Company, currently operates two cement plants in Okpella, Edo State, with a total capacity of 6 million metric tonnes per annum.

BUA Cement is the premium cement market leader in the South East and South-South region of the country.
