Coronavirus Infects 51 in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed five new cases of the deadly coronavirus disease in the country.

The agency disclosed in its latest update that the five new cases were reported from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Lagos and Rivers States.

It stated further that two of the infections were from Abuja, another two from Lagos and one from Rivers State.

A further breakdown showed that three of the infected persons were returning travellers into the country, while the two remaining persons are close contacts of a confirmed case.

“Five new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria: 2 in FCT, 2 in Lagos & 1 in Rivers

“3 are returning travellers into Nigeria & 2 are close contacts of a confirmed case,” the agency said in a tweet on Wednesday night on its verified Twitter page.

As at 11:25 pm of March 25, 2020, there have been 51 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria out of which two have already been discharged, while one fatality has been recorded.

Currently, Lagos has the highest number of cases in the country. The aquatic city has confirmed 32 cases so far. It is followed by Abuja with 10, Ogun State with three, Ekiti, Oyo, Edo, Bauchi, Osun and Rivers States with one each.

Globally, over 450,000 persons have been infected with the disease, while nearly 20,000 people have died from the virus, which presently has no cure.
