Federal Government has strongly condemned the alleged extra-judicial killing of a Nigerian in South Africa by the country’s police.
On Sunday, January 1, 2017, on Mr Tochukwu Nnadi, a Nigerian living in the former apartheid country, was killed by the police.
Reacting to the murder, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri Erewa, lamented that the killing of Mr Nnadi has brought to 20 Nigerians killed in South Africa through extra judicial means in 2016.
Speaking through a statement issued by her media aide, Mr Abdur-Rahman Balagun, the President’s aide stressed that the gruesome killing of Mr Nnadi was unacceptable to the people and government of Nigeria.
She described the incident as worrying and condemnable.
“The barbaric behaviour of the perpetrators is not only unacceptable, but also calls for urgent attention by diplomatic authorities in Nigeria and South Africa,” she said.
However, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa re-iterated President Muhammadu Buhari’s call to Nigerians to avoid crimes like drug peddling which attracts stiff penalties.
She called on the South African government to ensure that justice prevails by carrying out investigation and bring the culprit to book.
