Security Council to End Crisis in Some Parts of Nigeria

The National Security Council has taken major decisions that will lead to the end of crisis in some parts of the country.

Defence Minister, Mr Mansur Dan-Ali, disclosed this to journalists at the Presidential Villa, Abuja while speaking to them shortly after a meeting of the Council, which was presided over by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Dan-Ali said despite the presence of troops in Southern Kaduna, negotiations are going on to find a lasting solution to the problem.

“The Southern Kaduna, Niger-Delta and other crisis areas were discussed and resolutions were reached. For instance, in Southern Kaduna, our troops are already on ground and negotiations are going on and I believe very soon the problem will be over,” he said.

On the impending crisis in Gambia and the movement of troops there, the Defence Minister simply said: “That is an international issue and I believe that the ECOWAS are still working on peaceful resolution. We have not reached any conclusion on that.”

Similarly, the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai said Special Forces are already operating in Southern Kaduna an exercise would be conducted to cover parts of Kaduna, Plateau and Kano States, to completely end the crisis.

“Our troops are already in Southern Kaduna. We have our Special Force operating there alongside other security agencies and we intend also to have an exercise very soon in that area to cover some parts of Plateau and indeed Kano States. It’s part of our strategies this year to continue all the exercises we have had before. We will be having Kunama II around Felgore forest to take care of Southern Kaduna, parts of Plateau and Kano and then we will have further exercise crocodile smile in the Niger-Delta and indeed exercise python dance for the

South-East, which we are going to rename this year also,” the Army Chief stated.

The Security Council meeting, which lasted over five hours, was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonishakin as well as the Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
