The number of persons infected with the coronavirus disease in Nigeria has soared to 40 after four new cases were confirmed on Monday night by the federal government.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in a tweet last night, said three more persons tested positive for the COVID-19 in Lagos, while one tested positive in Abuja, the nation’s seat of power.
The agency disclosed that two of the four fresh cases were returning travellers, while the two others had contacts with the infected travellers.

“As at 11:00pm on the 23rd of March, there are 40 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. 2 have been discharged with 1 death recorded,” the NCDC said in the post on its Twitter page on Monday night.
According to a breakdown of cases by states released by the NCDC, currently, Lagos State has recorded 28 cases, Abuja 7, Ogun State 2, Ekiti State 1, Oyo State 1 and Edo State 1.
As the COVID19 situation in Nigeria evolves, NCDC and and government agencies are taking the necessary measures to protect residents of the country. Regular washing of hands with soap and running water and sanitizer has been advised as well as social distancing.
