Gbadegesin Resumes as New MD/CEO of LAWMA

Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin has resumed as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

Mr Gbadegesin assumed his new role at a handing over ceremony held at the LAWMA office, Ikeja, on Thursday, August 8, 2019. He is taking over from former occupier of the position, Mr Ola Oresanya.

At the handing over ceremony last week, Mr Gbadegesin thanked his predecessor for his support, expressing optimism that the former LAWMA chief would “join us as we begin to actualize Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu’s bold agenda for waste management” for a greater Lagos.

The new waste management chief promised to apply the necessary skills to address the challenges of waste disposal in the metropolis so as to keep the aquatic city safe and clean. He also called for support of residents of the mega city, promising to relate well with them for a better Lagos.

Mr Gbadegesin, a former Commissioner for Health in Oyo State, advises governments, organisations and companies on strategy, policy, and innovation in the African environment. Hr holds a doctorate degree in Neuroscience from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, from Howard University, Washington, DC.

He served as an advisor to two successive governors of Lagos State, Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Mr Babatunde Fashola.

During his time in Lagos State Government as a Senior Special Assistant for Technology and Special Projects, Mr Gbadegesin led the restructuring of the Property Identification Exercise (PIE) and Land Use Charge (LUC) billing system. This project expanded the PIE database to 250,000 properties while doubling the revenue to N350 million in the first year.
