Liverpool emerged the victorious side in Sunday’s star match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to maintain their winning streak to the new Premier League season with a 2-1 victory.
A strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold and a Roberto Firmino header put the Merseyside team two goals up after a disallowed Cesar Azpilicueta goal.
N’Golo Kante put one back for Chelsea in the game and the Blues mounted pressure but Liverpool carried the day after 90 minutes.
Liverpool’s win mean they become the first team to win their first six Premier League games in two successive seasons.
The Reds took the lead after Christensen fouled Mané just outside the top of the area and Liverpool worked a direct free kick, with Salah rolling it back and Alexander-Arnold absolutely kicking it into the top corner.
Chelsea then did equalize or thought they did as captain Cesar Azpilicueta hit the ball into the back of the net after Liverpool failed to deal with an Alonso cross, but the goal was called off by VAR for a marginal offside by Mason Mount at the very start of the play.
Almost immediately after, Liverpool put another one into the Chelsea net after the Frank Lampard side failed to deal with another free kick — this time, Robertson cross was met by Firmino who saw a wide opening to head into the back of the net.
Liverpool, after a couple of efforts relaxed after 2-0, getting but Chelsea pressing and a reward came in the 71st minute from a tremendous Kanté effort to beat Adrian.
Chelsea pressed harder afterwards but couldn’t find the equaliser, as the Reds held on to the end of the game to remain at the top of the league.
Others matches played on Sunday had Manchester United suffer a 2-0 defeat against a far superior performing West Ham side; Diogo Jota scored a 96th minute equaliser to rescue a point for Wolverhampton Wanderers in a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace; 10-man Arsenal beat Aston Villa 3-2 as recording signing Nicholas Pepe scored his first goal for the North London club.
