There is anxiety in the air as President Muhammadu Buhari is prepared to finally sign the 2018 Appropriation Bill into law today, Wednesday, June 20, 2018.
On Tuesday, the presidency confirmed that Mr Buhari will sign the 2018 budget into law on Wednesday at 12 pm.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will sign the 2018 Appropriation Bill into law tomorrow Wednesday June 20, 2018, at noon (12pm),” a tweet from the Nigerian government with the handle @asorock posted on Twitter on Tuesday.
In November 2017, President Buhari presented a budget of N8.6 trillion to the chambers of the National Assembly.
On May 16, 2018, the parliament eventually passed the 2018 Appropriation Bill, raising it to N9.1 trillion and transmitting it to the President on May 25, 2018.
Many observers had queried the last passage of the 2018 budget by the parliament, emphasising that it was dangerous to the economy, which just came out of recession.
Business Post recalls that the 2017 budget, presented to the parliament in December 2016, was passed by the National Assembly in May 2017.
It was eventually signed into law in June 2017 by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was then the acting president as a result of Mr Buhari’s medical trip to London.
