NASD Exchange Records N7.98bn Expansion in One Week

The 6th week of trading at the NASD Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities Exchange ended on a positive note as investors gained N7.98 billion in the five trading sessions.

According to the weekly NASD market review and analysis by Business Post, the market capitalisation of the NASD Exchange jumped to N636.29 billion from N628.31 billion in Week 5.

As for the NASD Securities Index, it rose by 1.27 per cent or 9.43 points to close at 751.43 points in contrast to 742 points of the preceding week.

The positive outcome was buoyed by the gains posted by two stocks led by FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, which expanded by 14.4 per cent to N135.00 per share from the previous close of N118.00 per share.

Niger Delta Exploration and Production (NDEP) Plc appreciated in the week by 0.02 per cent to N235.00 per unit from N239.45 per unit it ended a week earlier.

However, NASD Plc lost 23.08 per cent to settle at N8.43 per unit in contrast to N10.96 per unit of the previous week, while Central Securities Clearing Systems (CSCS) Plc fell by 7.6 per cent to close at N18.20 per share compared with N19.70 per share in week 5.

Last week, the total value of transactions surged by 295.3 per cent to N200.0 million from N50.6 million, while the deals rose by 50 per cent to 66 trades from 44 trades, with the total volume of trades rising by 35.8 per cent to 2.6 million units from 1.9 million units.

FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc was the most traded security by volume with 1.4 million units, followed by NASD Plc with 730,000 units, CSCS Plc posted 371,890 units, NASD Plc recorded 93,579 units, while NDEP Plc exchanged 12,000 units.

By value, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc was also the most traded with N177.7 million, CSCS Plc traded N6.9 million, NASD Plc recorded N6.8, Nipco Plc posted N5.8 million, while NDEP Plc traded N2.8 million.

On a year-to-date basis, investors have transacted 644.5 million units of securities worth N14.5 billion in 266 deals.
