Electricity distribution companies operating in Nigeria have been urged to make provision of quality service to their customers as major priority.
This appeal was made on Saturday at the town hall meeting organised by the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) in Abuja.
At the meeting which precisely took place at the Government Secondary School, by First Pedestrian Bridge, FHA, Estate Lugbe, Abuja, it was alleged that most power distribution firms in the country still render poor services as if they were still a public enterprise.
Some participants also claimed the discos were not making efforts to provide pre-paid metres to their customers, relying on estimated billings, which they said the companies were using to rip off consumers.
They urged government to come up with a law that would make it mandatory for discos to metre every consumer so as to stop the issue of over billing.
Present at the town hall meeting were officials of the CPC, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), who promised to look at issues raised at the forum.
