Lagos Unveils Harmonised Calendar for 2022/2023 Academic Year

The harmonised calendar for public and private primary and secondary schools in Lagos State for the 2022/2023 academic year has been released by the Ministry of Education.

The guide was unveiled by the state government through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA).

According to the calendar, schools operating in the state are expected to resume for the first term (Y2022/2023 academic session) on Monday, September 5, 2022, and vacate on Friday, December 16, 2022.

For the second term, students are required to return to school on Monday, January 9, 2023, and will observe the mid-term break between Monday, February 20 and Friday, February 24, 2023, and then close for the term on Friday, April 21, 2023.

Schools are expected to resume for the third term on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, and go for the mid-term holiday on June 9 and then close the session on Friday, July 21, 2023.

The Director-General of OEQA, Mrs Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, in a statement, urged all schools in the state to adhere strictly to the academic calendar as approved for the delivery of quality and sustainable education in Lagos State.

She explained that the calendar was carefully created for flexibility in schools, through the Microsoft Certification, as it prioritises harmonised instructional days of learning to ensure that students in the state spend productive learning hours in the classrooms, stressing the need for schools to maintain a minimum of 180 learning days.

The duo of Emmanuella Agayapong, an industrial economics expert from Accra, Ghana, and Jy’Quan Stewart, an American writer and historian, are co-authoring a new biography titled The Biography of Kenneth Dike: Nigerian Pioneer in a rare cross-continental collaboration effort.

This forthcoming work aims to illuminate the life and legacy of Kenneth Onwuka Dike, a seminal figure in African historiography and Nigeria’s first indigenous Vice-Chancellor.

Kenneth Onwuka Dike (1917–1983) was instrumental in redefining African historical studies. He championed the decolonization of African history, emphasizing the importance of indigenous perspectives and oral traditions in historical research.

Dike’s tenure as the first Nigerian Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan marked a significant milestone in the nation’s academic development.
