Bears Tear NASD OTC Market Apart by 0.41%

The bears growled the NASD Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities Exchange by 0.41 per cent on Thursday, with the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) Plc closing the session as the only price loser.

CSCS Plc recorded a 90 Kobo decline in value to settle at N13.43 per unit compared with the previous day’s value of N14.33 per unit, causing the market capitalisation of the NASD OTC market to go down by N4.09 billion to N992.63 billion from N996.72 billion, with the NASD Unlisted Securities Index (NSI) dropping 3.11 basis points to end the day at 754.04 points as against the 757.15 points it recorded in the previous session.

The loss was recorded despite the share price of a market bellwether, FrieslandCampina Wamco Nigeria, improving during the session by 27 Kobo to N90.30 per unit from N90.09 per unit.

Yesterday, the volume of securities traded at the bourse by investors recorded a surge, growing by 13,236.4 per cent to 12.7 million units from the previous day’s 95,390 units.

In the same pattern, there was an upsurge in the value of shares traded by 51,866.1 per cent to N3.1 billion from N5.9 million, while the number of deals executed increased by 71.4 per cent to 12 deals from the preceding session’s seven deals.

When the market closed for the day, AG Mortgage Bank Plc remained the most traded stock by volume (year-to-date) with 2.3 billion units valued at N1.2 billion, CSCS Plc followed with 686.5 million units worth N14.2 billion, while Food Concepts Plc was in third place with 147.8 million units valued at N128.4 million.

The most traded stock by value on a year-to-date basis was still CSCS Plc with the sale of 686.5 million units worth N14.2 billion, VFD Group Plc has traded 23.8 million units valued at N6.4 billion to stay in second place, while FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc has exchanged 14.0 million units valued at N1.7 billion to retain third place.
