The federal government has ordered the immediate reopening of Dangote Cement factory in the Obajana area of Kogi State.

Dangote Group and the Kogi State government had been at loggerheads of the ownership of the cement plant.

The facility was shut down after some persons alleged to be sponsored by the state government invaded the factory and chased away the workers.

The federal government had to wade into the issue and in order not to send the wrong signal to international investors, it has asked for the reopening of the plant.

This action was announced by the Minister of Police Affairs, Mr Mohammed Dingyadi, who was joined by the Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor,

The trio and others were in Abuja on Friday for the National Security Council (NSC) chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

At the meeting, the issue was discussed, and it was agreed that the status quo should be maintained while efforts are taken underground to resolve the matter, either amicably or legally.

Addressing newsmen after the gathering at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, Mr Rauf Aregbesola noted that an agreement had been reached between Kogi State Government and Dangote Group on the need to reopen the cement factory.
