Two female suicide bombers have been reported dead at a cattle market in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State.
It was gathered that the bombers had planned to attack the market, but were stopped by members of the Youth Vigilante stationed at the entrance.
Reports say one of the women, on Monday, December 26, 2016, was ordered to stop at gun point from a distance to remove the explosives.
It was during this time that the devices exploded, killing the two of them instantly.
The incident reportedly caused tension in the area and saw many running to safety.
Monday’s foiled attack comes barely 48 hours after the Nigerian government announced the total defeat of Boko Haram in the northeast after chasing the terrorists’ group from their stronghold in Sambisa Forest in Borno State.
