Mr Akin Osuntokun has been appointed as the new director-general of the presidential campaign council of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi.
The new DG is taking over the position from Mr Doyin Okupe, who stepped down after a federal high court in Abuja convicted him of violating the money-laundering act by accepting cash of N702 million without going through the banking system.
The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr Julius Abure, has described the new campaign DG as a “worthy and trustworthy” replacement for Okupe.
Mr Osuntokun, who was once the DG of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), served as an aide to former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He became the South-West leader of the Labour Party after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party in August 2022.
He would be expected to join the other members of the campaign team to deploy strategies aimed at convincing Nigerians to vote for Mr Obi next year at the polls.
