The Osun State Government has taken over the disputed land between Ilobu and Ifon communities of the state.

The two communities, which share a boundary, have been at loggerheads over a piece of land, leading to the death of at least eight persons on Thursday, including a baby.

The Governor of the state, Mr Ademola Adeleke, said the land would now be under the control of the state government.

He confirmed this at a public enlightenment programme, Ipade Imole, organised by his administration.

“I have given a directive that nobody should be seen on the disputed land. Anybody they see there should be arrested and prosecuted. The state government has taken over the disputed land,” Mr Adeleke said in Osogbo on Thursday.

“I have informed the Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, who hails from Ilobu. We have given a standing order to the soldiers to be in charge,” he added.

The Governor tasked traditional rulers in the state to embrace peace, warning that the government would take decisive actions when necessary.

“The kings and leaders should come together. By the time the government takes over all your land, reality will dawn on you,” he noted.

It was gathered that security operatives have been deployed to the affected communities to bring the situation under control.
